Victor Maurer
Victor L. Maurer, 89, a longtime resident of New Bremen, died at 8:15 p.m. Dec. 11, 2014, at Elmwood of New Bremen.
He was born April 25, 1925, near Kettlersville, to Walter and Mary Roettger Maurer. On Dec. 20, 1947, he married Virginia Boyer of Anna, who died March 25, 2007.
Surviving are five children, Jack (Adrienne) Maurer, Fort Wayne, Ind., Jane (David) Wyen, Rio Vista, Calif., Pam (Paul) Simon, Anna, Lori (Mark) Winner, New Bremen, and Kim (Tim) Hemmelgarn, New Bremen; 15 grandchildren, Jason (Emily) Maurer, Kirsten (Ronn) Bouchard, Lauren Maurer, Morgan Maurer, Josh (Rebecca) Kebbel-Wyen, Victor (Rachel Flaata) Wyen, Matthew (Katie) Maurer, Suzie Simon, Sam Simon, Elizabeth (Jim) Gledhill, Brett (Elizabeth Gutwein) Winner, Andersen Reed, Kaelen Reed, Joel Hemmelgarn and Austin Hemmelgarn; four great-grandchildren, Alec Bouchard, Cole Bouchard, Brantley Simon and Sylvia Liu Akayla Maurer; and two sisters, Betty Kaufman, Bellefontaine, and Patricia Korn, Janesville, Minn.
Also deceased are two sisters and seven brothers.
  He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen, where he was active in the church choir for many years and served as past church council president. He was a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran and served in the Pacific Theatre as a tailgunner in B25 bombers.
He was a member of New Bremen American Legion Post 241, and served on the first New Bremen Tree Commission and was one of the original nine trustees as president of the New Bremen Historic Association in 1973.
He enjoyed golfing, gardening and was an active swimmer. He retired in 1987 from the former Botkins Grain and Feed Company, was the business owner of GMB Feed Company and also worked in sales management at the former New Bremen Supply Company.
Services are 11 a.m. Jan. 10 at St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen, the Revs. Becky Erb Strang and Jim Egbert officiating.
Calling is 3-6 p.m. Jan. 9 at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and after 10 a.m. Jan. 10 at the church.
