Denny Howell
Denny Conner Howell's journey came to an end Jan. 20, 2015. He was 63 years old.
He was born Oct. 2, 1951, in Celina, to Denzel Paul and Ruth Ellen Conner Howell, who are deceased. On Dec. 27, 1980, he married Jeanine Ann Tressler, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Jessica (Guy) Frye, Jennifer (John) Priest, and Julianne (Ben Pontious) Howell; two grandchildren, Jaycee Priest and Maeleigh Pontious; a sister, Paula (Greg) Byers; a sister-in-law, Janet (Jim) Davis; four nieces and nephews, Teresa, Tamara (Shawn), Jordan and Jason; and two great-nephews, Colin and Ryan.
Deceased are a sister, Pamela Kay Howell, and in-laws, Marjorie Lee Swan and James Albert Tressler.
He was a 1970 graduate of Celina High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in business education in 1975 from Wright State University. He later earned a Master of Science in administration and supervision from the University of Dayton. He then obtained his licensure in school counseling, elementary education and superintendency.
He began his professional career in 1975 at The Proctor and Gamble Distributing Company. Two years later he transitioned to a career in education, first as the business education teacher and head football coach at St. Henry High School until 1981. He then worked at Celina East Elementary as the elementary guidance counselor until 1985 and later as the elementary principal at Fort Recovery schools.
In 1988, he served as superintendent of the Crestview Local School District. He continued as superintendent at the Greenon Local School District from 1998 until his retirement in 2006.
After retirement, he worked at Twin Valley Community Local School District. He was a member of the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators and the Buckeye Association of School Administrators Legislative Committee. He also served on numerous other boards.
He enjoyed spending time with "his girls" and family, golfing, traveling and cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns.
He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, father-in-law, brother-in-law and grandfather.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Bethany United Methodist Church, Celina. Graveside services will follow at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
