Cletus Niekamp
Cletus B. Niekamp age 92 of New Bremen, died on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 9:30 A.M. at his residence outside of New Bremen.
He was born on May 20, 1923 in St. Sebastian, Ohio, the son of the late Bernard and Matilda (Schmitmeyer) Niekamp. On November 27, 1947 he married Hilda Eckstein who survives.
Also surviving are their children Bob (Rita) Niekamp, Donna (Jim) Pape, both of New Bremen, Lois (Tim) McKibans of Johns Creek, GA, Susie (Jeff) McCollum, Joe (Caryn) Niekamp, Rick (Sue) Niekamp, all of New Bremen, a daughter-in-law Elaine (Todd) Meineke of Villa Hills, KY, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, sisters Dorothy Schmitt of St. Henry, Edna (Roger) Lochtefeld of Fort Recovery, sister-in-laws Luella Rindler of McCartyville, and Dorothy Niekamp of Celina.
Preceding him in death were a daughter Barbara Meiring, a son David Niekamp, a grandson Patrick Meiring, and siblings Rose Kramer, Mark, Thomas, and Paul Niekamp.
Cletus and Hilda were charter members of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen, where he served as an usher and collections counter for many years. He was engaged in farming for his entire life, but also worked outside the home as a drywaller and plasterer for Shiveley's.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at the Church of the Holy Redeemer, in New Bremen, with Rev. Thomas Mannebach and Rev. Ron Wilker officiating.
Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home of New Bremen, and from 9:00 until 10:00 A.M. Thursday at the church, at which time the Rosary will be prayed. Burial will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the State of the Heart Hospice, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, or the Holy Redeemer Church Memorial Fund.
