Bird believed to be cause of power outage

By William Kincaid
CELINA - The city was without power for about an hour on Tuesday morning/afternoon.
Mayor Jeff Hazel this morning said the outage likely was the result a bird striking a 69-kilovolt power line within 3.9 miles of the Sugar Street substation.
Electricity went out about 11:30 a.m. in an area reportedly stretching from at least Staeger Road to the Mercer County Sheriff's Office, west of Celina.
Upon notification of the outage, Dayton Power and Light immediately sent personnel from Sidney to a substation on Sugar Street to physically close an opened switch, according to Hazel.
Power was restored about 12:20 p.m.
For liability reasons, Dayton Power and Light uses its own employees to close open switches at its substations, Hazel said.
