Bernard Lefeld
Bernard H. Lefeld, age 91 of St. Henry, died on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at The Gardens at St. Henry.
He was born on May 8, 1924 in St. Joe to the late George and Bernadine (Schmackers) Lefeld. On June 12, 1947 he married Agnes (Weitzel) Lefeld, and she passed October 20, 2009.
He is survived by three children: Nick Lefeld, Lima, Vicky Lefeld, Sidney, and Chris & Valerie Lefeld, Spring Hill TN; five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren; siblings: Agnes Pohlman, and Henry & Trudie Lefeld, and a sister in-law Mary Ann Lefeld.
He is preceded in death by his siblings Joseph & Sally Lefeld, Alvina & William Stammen, Dorothy & Richard Kuess, Seraphim & Clarina Lefeld, Edward & Viola Lefeld, Bernie & Al Homan and Martin Lefeld. Deceased in-laws include Harold Seger, Joseph Buening, and Otto Pohlman.
From 1947-1957 Ben ran a milk route to Redkey IN for the former Pet Milk Co. in Coldwater. Ben then sold the milk route and became the owner and operator of Lefeld Pro-Hardware Store from 1959 until it closed in 1991, he then worked part-time for the St. Henry Tile Co. for several years.
Ben was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a proud member of the St. Henry American Legion post 648, where he was a past commander of the post, as well as a member of the Coldwater VFW. He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, the St. Henry Knights of Columbus, The St. Henry Commercial Club. In addition he was also a member of The Mercer County Elks, Coldwater Eagles, and was a past volunteer firefighter for St. Henry.
In his earlier years Ben loved to dance with his loving wife of 62 years. Ben also enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing, as well as playing cards and watching the Cincinnati Reds. Ben never knew a stranger.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at St. Henry Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Henry Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 until 8 pm Friday and 9 until 9:30 am Saturday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry.
