Marlene Slusser
Marlene Lagora Elnora (Korfhagen) Slusser, born April 14, 1938 to John George and Eleanora (Schoenlein) Korfhagen, entered into her peaceful rest after a battle with brain cancer, on November 30, 2016 at Parkview Hospital Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Her family was by her side.
Marlene was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and Aunt.
On September 29, 1954, Marlene married the love of her life, Thomas E. Slusser, who survives in Celina. In September of this year they celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Together they have 6 children, Toni K. Slusser (Dave Schroyer), Celina, Joel A Slusser, Celina, Thomas E. Slusser, Las Vegas NV, Samuel R. (Kim) Slusser, Celina, Lisa (Conrad) Dery, Van Wert, and Shelly (Andy) James, Osawatomie, KS. Marlene has 11 grandchildren: Tyler (Jessalyn) Slusser, Celina, Amanda Slusser, Fairborn, OH, Dereck Slusser, Celina, Courtney (Richard) Ceasar, Kansas City, MO., Clayton Slusser, Santa Clarita, CA., Anthony Slusser, Cleveland, Ohio, Arielle Slusser, Celina, Ashley Slusser, St. Marys, Alicia Slusser, Celina, Julia Folk Muncie, IN, Charlie Folk, Athens, Ohio, Noah James, Osawatomie, KS, and 6 Great Grandchildren; Kaleah Dailey, Jax Hill, Laylah Hill, Dominik Sharpe, August Ceasar, and Lillian Slusser. Marlene is survived by five sisters; Marilyn Aker, Ft. Wayne, In., Maxine Slusser, Spring Arbor, MI., Myra Dysert, Coldwater, Marjorie Shinn, Celina, Myrna (Richard) Huelsman, The Villages, FL., and a sister and brother in law, Ann (Al) Rice, Jeffersonville, IN. Marlene also has several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, John George and Eleanora (Schoenlein) Korfhagen, an infant sister, Mary Korf-hagen, her mother and father in law, Tony and Kathryn (Dysert) Slusser, 5 brother in laws; Max Aker, William Dysert, James Shinn, Jerry Slusser, and Samuel Slusser.
Marlene attended school in Coldwater, Ohio and during that time was a member of Holy Trinity Church. Later, Marlene and her family attended the Friends Church in Celina.
While raising 6 children, Marlene also managed the accounting, and payroll, departments at Tom's Installation Company; She worked with her husband at the business located in St. Henry, Ohio for 30 years, plus another 17 years in Celina, Ohio.
Marlene loved spending time with her family, especially her Grandchildren. She also looked forward to traveling with her husband and friends to Florida each year. She enjoyed volunteering at the Celina VFW, for Sunday brunches, turtle fry's, and the yearly children's Easter egg hunt. She also volunteered at the VFW, Mercer County Fair booth where she served her famous homemade bean soup.
Marlene and her husband hosted an annual hog roast for the Park Grand community in Montezuma for more than 20 years. Marlene had an ornery side and was proud of having every NFL team shirt, so she could aggravate Cleveland Browns football fans, by wearing the opposing teams jersey to the VFW each Sunday afternoon.
She was loved by many people, and adored by her family. She will be forever missed, but never forgotten.
Marlene was a member of the Celina VFW, Post 5713 and a member of the Celina American Legion, Post 210.
Funeral Arrangements will be held at Cisco Funeral home, Ste. Rte. 703. Viewing will be held on Sunday, from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a VFW Auxiliary Memorial Service beginning at 7:00 pm.
A final farewell service will be held on Monday at the funeral home beginning at 10:30 am, with a prior one hour viewing beginning at 9:30 am. Reverend Paul Detwiler presiding. There will be no burial after services on Monday. Marlene will be cremated, and a special service will be held for immediate family members at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions or donations can be made in memory of Marlene to the American Cancer Society and/or Community Health Professionals.
