Alice (Thobe) Varno, age 92, of Sidney, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016.

She was born in Minster on November 11, 1924 to the late Henry and Matilda (Heitkamp) Thobe. On June 4, 1947, she married Leonard Varno. He preceded her in death on January 13, 2004.

Alice is survived by her children: Karen (Gene) Kinninger of Shawano, WI, Brenda (Ray) Lazier of Maplewood, OH and Doris (Steven) Bales of Sidney, OH; eight grandchildren: Scott Kinninger, Matt (Kristine) Kinninger, Sara (Matt) Stefan, Laura (James) Block, Amanda (Chris) Hicks, Mark (T.J.) Bales, Trisha Bales and Lee (Andrea) Bales; eleven great grandchildren; sisters: Mary C. Mescher, Martha (Tom) Warner, Margie (David) Moeller and Lois (Jay) Hogenkamp; brothers: Delbert (Velma) Thobe, Donald (Patty) Thobe, Roland (Shirley) Thobe, David (Jean) Thobe and Larry Thobe; and sisters-in-law: Mary Thobe, Angela Raterman and Fredonia Varno.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson: Jeffrey A. McCullough; brothers and sister: Virgil Thobe, Warner Thobe, Elton Thobe, Harold Thobe and Marilyn Miller; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Mary Thobe, Norma Thobe, Dale Miller, John Mescher, Linda Thobe, Virginia Thobe, Al and Rosella Eilerman, Vince Raterman, LaVerne Varno, and Victor and Henrietta Thobe.

Alice was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church for 70 years. She was an honorary member of Holy Angels Ladies Society, enjoyed volunteering at FISH, playing cards and visiting with family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney with Rev. Fr. Frank Amberger as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery in Sidney.

Friends may call from 2–6 PM on Sunday at Adams Funeral Home in Sidney.
