CELINA - Board of elections members chose a new deputy director on Tuesday, replacing longtime director/deputy director Laura Bruns, who left in May.
Kristi Timmerman of Fort Recovery will take up the mantle starting July 12, earning a salary of $41,500. Director Deb Sneddon said Timmerman had been chosen from about 30 applicants. [More]

CELINA - A Celina man on Tuesday afternoon was found guilty of trafficking methamphetamine near a school or juveniles.
Jason E. Niemeyer, 39, was charged with two counts of aggravated trafficking of drugs, specifically methamphetamine, near a school or near juveniles. A Mercer County Common Pleas Court jury found him guilty on both charges after deliberating about two hours and 15 minutes. Niemeyer faces a possible prison sentence ranging from one to five years and fines of up to $10,000. [More]

CELINA - Mercer County commissioners on Tuesday passed a resolution seeking to renew the county home's 1-mill maintenance and operation levy on the Nov. 5 ballot.

Mercer County's unemployment rate increased slightly in May, but the county still maintains the lowest rate in the state.
The rate rose from 1.9% in April to 2.1% in May, according to Ohio Department of Job and Family Services information.
