St. Marys' Reghan Puthoff makes a dig as Audra Clark (21) clears out of the way in a Western Buckeye League match with Kenton at Grand Lake Health System Court on Tuesday.

ST. MARYS - The St. Marys Roughriders battled past Kenton in the first two sets Tuesday.

The third set wasn't much of a battle.

On Senior Night, the Roughriders opened the third set with a 6-0 run en route to completing a 25-18, 25-13, 25-15 sweep in Western Buckeye League play. St. Marys (11-9, 5-2 WBL) is tied for second place in the conference race, trailing unbeaten Shawnee.

"It's always nice to come in and get a sweep on Senior Night," St. Marys coach Caley Yoder said. "Moving forward, we talked to them about energy. We talked to them about momentum and about how we need to focus on the six people on the court and playing well and playing to our level of volleyball."

The score was leveled several times early in the first two sets. But in both, St. Marys took control with big runs.

With the score tied at 8-all in the first set, St. Marys took the lead for good on a block by Brynn Clark, who tallied four kills in the 25-18 victory. Sylvia Wiechart and Syerra Greber also made plays around the net.

"(Clark) moves the ball around really well," Yoder said "I've been happy with what she's been able to do and how she's been able to adjust with us having two setters this year. We can always count on her and Syerra Greber to get big kills in big moments."

A 10-all tie marked the sixth such instance in the second set. At that point, Wiechart hit back-to-back kills to return the lead to St. Marys, which finished on a 15-3 run. Clark and Greber added a few more spikes to their numbers and Lily Rammel collected her second ace.

Rammel notched another ace during a 6-0 service run to start set three. Clark scored the first three points of the set with two kills and a block. After falling into that 6-0 hole, the Wildcats never got closer than three points the rest of the night.

"I think we served really well tonight," Yoder said. "We threw off their offense really well. We're continuing to just move forward and continuing to build our side of the court as much as we can."

Leading the stat sheet for the Roughriders were Clark (12 kills, three blocks), Greber (nine kills, 10 digs), Wiechart (seven kills, two blocks), Rammel (20 assists, three aces) and Ashlie Nuss (13 digs).
