Velma Schroer
Velma Jean Schroer, age 83, of Coldwater, passed away peacefully at home on August 25, 2025. She was born on February 15, 1942 in Coldwater to the late Lawrence & Elsie (Thien) Geier. She married Richard Schroer at Celina Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on June 27, 1964 and he survives in Coldwater.
She is also survived by children, Kelly & Jim Whitacre of Coldwater, Jody & Tom Homan of Coldwater, Tracy & Shawn Thieman of St. Henry, and Matt & Janice Schroer of Coldwater, 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way, sister, Esther & Tom Gray of Celina, and in-laws, Mary Geier of Coldwater, Kathy Geier of Akron, Jeanette Schroer of Bradenton, Florida, and Mary Brunswick of Ormond Beach, Florida.
She was preceded in death by siblings and in-laws, Louis Geier, LouAnn & Joe Wendel, Tom Frysinger, Lavern & Rita Kunk, Larry Geier, Paul & Phyllis Schroer, Ralph Schroer, and Larry Brunswick.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Coldwater, the Knights of St. Johns Auxiliary and the Coldwater VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Jean demonstrated her strong work ethic throughout her life and ended her work career with 20 plus years at Coldwater Schools.
Jean's fun-loving spirit was present at every family gathering, especially when playing cards and games of all types. Jean was endlessly proud of her family, especially her kids and grandkids. Family was her greatest source of joy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 28 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday and from 9 AM to 10 AM on Thursday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of Mercer County or EverHeart Hospice. Condolences may be left at hogenkampfh.com.
