Violet Smoker
Violet I. Smoker, 91, 1119 Sunset Drive, Celina, and formerly of Akron, Ind., died at 10:40 p.m. Feb. 8, 2008, at Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford.
She was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Kosciusko County, Ind., to Melvin Merl Smith and Sadie Faun Jones Smith. On Feb. 1, 1934, she married Doin M. Smoker, who died Sept. 10, 2004.
Survivors are: a daughter, Merlee (Fred) Heckathorn, Celina; a brother, Devon Smith, Warsaw, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Jean Smith, Warsaw, Ind.; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a son, Charles; a brother, Doyle Smith; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn; and a grandson.
She was a homemaker and active in 4-H and the Farm Bureau.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, Ind., the Rev. Terry Canfield officiating. Burial is at Akron Cemetery.
Calling is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
