Ansonia man likely killed in rural Indiana

Death of Cheadle takes a new twist

Police now believe the murder of an Ansonia man - whose body was found eight days ago in Greenville - took place in Randolph County, Ind.

Greenville Police late last week ruled the death of 53-year-old Patrick D. Cheadle a homicide. On Monday, they announced the investigation was expanded to include a rural home in Randolph County where they believe Cheadle was killed.

The Randolph County Sheriff's Office and the Indiana State Police have joined the investigation.

Police continue to release little information about the incident, refusing to say how Cheadle died or the type of weapon used, if any. Detectives were unavailable for comment this morning.

Following a tip on Nov. 3, Greenville police found Cheadle's body in the back of a parked van about 5 p.m. The vehicle was located in the 400 block of Elm Street in the city.

An autopsy was performed on the body at Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory. Police say they have received preliminary findings and are awaiting a full report.

Cheadle, a self-employed semi truck detailer with family ties in Mercer County, was buried in a cemetery in Philothea on Saturday.

Cheadle's mother, Ona Brown Cheadle, survives in New Weston; his father, Robert Cheadle, is deceased. He also is survived by two daughters, three grandchildren and nine siblings.

Also aiding in the investigation is the Darke County Coroner's Office and the Darke County Sheriff's Office.
