Ella Thomas
Ella Mae Thomas, 101, of Mendon, died at 4:12 p.m. March 30, 2010, at Colonial Nursing Home in Rockford.
She was born April 4, 1908, in Adams County, Ind., to John Asa Logan and Martha Luella Raver Book. In 1926, she married Waldo Thomas, who died in 1998.
Surviving are three sons, James (Jean) Thomas, Convoy, Carl (Mary) Thomas, Columbus, and Wayne (Connie) Thomas, Bowling Green; four daughters, Lois (Gene) Joseph, Lima, Joan (Fred) Hasis, Mendon, Betty Simpson, Rockford, and Eunice (Glen) Richardson, Lima; a son-in-law, Don Hellwarth, Marysville; two sisters, Helen Hurless and Pauline Sell, both of Rockford; 15 grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a daughter, Jeanette Hellwarth; a daughter-in-law, Mary Thomas; a son-in-law, Maurice Simpson; three brothers, John, Russell and Rea Book; a sister, Olive Leighner; three infant brothers and sisters; and a grandson.
She was a homemaker and a poet and the oldest living member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. She also was a member of Mendon United Methodist Church and the Mendon Garden Club.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Donald Clinger officiating. Burial is at Tomlinson Cemetery near Mendon.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Cisco Funeral Home in Celina.
