"Brother Nick's machine" will be demonstrated at Aug. 24 event

A one-of-a-kind cover crop seeder/corn detassler built by a local man will be demonstrated during a cover crop walk Aug. 24 at the Mercer Wildlife Area.
Brother Nick Renner, a grain farmer and member of the Mercer County Soil and Water Conservation District board, bought a 1970 corn detassler in Illinois in January and attached an air seeder to it. [More]

Company proposing to use local animal waste to generate electricity
CELINA - A manure digester plant would help preserve the robust agricultural heritage of the area while creating an ancillary energy industry that one man believes is the wave of the future.
CELINA - Board of education members on Monday agreed to stay in the running for Ohio School Facilities Commission (OSFC) money for a possible construction project.
MINSTER - Minster Local Schools board of education Monday night set Aug. 26 as the date for a work session to discuss the need for additional money and what type of funding vehicle to take to voters next year.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is investigating a manure pollution incident reported shortly before 3 p.m. Friday in Little Beaver Creek and a tributary at Philothea and Township Line roads.
The Auglaize-Mercer County Drug Task Force arrested six people Monday following a 6-month investigation by officers.
The action was the result of an ongoing effort by the task force, which consists of law enforcement officers from both counties in the Grand Lake area.
The 48th annual Farm Science Review, Ohio's premier agricultural event, will be held Sept. 21-23 at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center in London.
The event attracts around 140,000 visitors from the U.S. and Canada each year, a news release from Farm Science Review Manager Chuck Gamble says.
