James McDermitt
James W. McDermitt, 81, New Bremen, died at 6:01 p.m.. Oct. 10, 2010, at his home.
He was born April 21, 1929, in St. Marys. He was the son of Herschel McDermitt and Helen Schroer Uetrecht. On Nov. 25, 1949, he married Kathryn Ann Thees, who died Feb. 14, 1980.
Surviving are two sons, Monty (Liz) McDermitt, Minster, and Marty (Cheryl) McDermitt, York, S.C.; and two grandchildren.
He was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, the Mercer Lodge 121 F & AM, The St. Marys Chapter 51 RAM, the St. Marys Council 81 R & SM and a 50-year member of the AASR Valley of Dayton. He was a 1948 graduate of New Bremen High School. He is the holder of several national muzzleloader rifle shooting records. He worked as a supervisor for the former Goodyear in St. Marys, where he retired in 1985.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, the Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Burial is at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery in New Knoxville.
Calling is noon-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or the New Bremen Emergency Squad.
