Mercer, Auglaize rank among top 10 counties in state health study

Local residents are making good choices to stay healthy.
The 2012 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps study released Tuesday placed Mercer County sixth and Auglaize County 10th for overall health among Ohio's 88 counties.
Both have consistently improved since the annual rankings were first released by the University of Wisconsin in 2010. Last year, Mercer County scored ninth; Auglaize County was 12th. [More]

The top honors for the The Daily Standard's 2012 Girls' Basketball Dream Team is about perseverance and determination.
Marion Local's Margaret Wuebker led her team to a perfect record within the Midwest Athletic Conference this past season and it earned the Flyers' leader Player of the Year honors. [More]

The Grand Lake area - particularly Mercer County - has a higher-than-average number of traffic fatalities per population, according to a wellness study released Tuesday.
New Bremen duo champions saving oceans, animals
NEW BREMEN - Two New Bremen natives are preparing to catch the trade winds and sail away.
On April 15, Steve Cashdollar, now of Zionsville, Ind., and Don Kuck, New Bremen village council president, will board a 31-foot yacht and sail 600 miles from Maryland to South Carolina.
