A fast-moving storm brought down trees, utility poles and a pole barn as it whipped through Mercer and Auglaize counties Monday evening.

Farmers try new planting method; more in north part of county plant cover crops
About six farmers in Mercer County planted corn into growing cover crops this year, a relatively new practice in the area.
They are among the first farmers in the county that he is aware of, to try the practice said Jim Hoorman, a cover crop expert and OSU Extension educator for Mercer County.
