Norbert Gels
Norbert A. "Doc" Gels, 94, St. Henry, died July 16, 2012, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
He was born July 20, 1917, in St. Henry to Aloys and Anna Selhorst Gels. On Dec. 1, 1956, he married Dolores Huwer Luttmer Gels, who survives.
Other survivors are three children, Eric (Shirley) Luttmer, Wilmington, N.C., Jane (Joe) Boeckman, Columbus, and Mary (Bruce) James, Celina; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Deceased are four brothers, Jerry, Elmer, Raymond and Arthur Gels, and an infant sister, Mary Catherine.
He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, Mercer County Elks and St. Henry American Legion. He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired as a partner of the former Mrs. A.J. Gels & Sons, St. Henry.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Benedict Magabe officiating with assistance from Deacon Randy Balster. Burial with military honors will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Friday and 9-9:45 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry.
Contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of Mercer County or the St. Henry CCD program.
