John Art
John Bernard Art, 85, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 14, 2014, at Springview Manor Nursing Home, Lima.
He was born Aug. 6, 1928, in Burkettsville, the son of Henry F. and Lucina (Rammel) Art, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 5, 1959, he married Irene Mary (Homan) Art, who survives.
The couple were the parents of six children, Aaron (Lina) Art, Valery (Jeff) Conrad, Brian Art, Charles (Laura) Art and Christopher (Kelli) Art. Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Laurie Art; 14 grandchildren, Jeff, Nick, Christina, Matthew, Emily, Erin, Jessica, Amanda, Elizabeth, Lauren, Mitchell, Andrew, Rebecca and Peter; eight great-grandchildren; and eight brothers and sisters, Catherine Birley, Robert Art, Leroy Art, Ruth Grieshop, Clara Forsthoefel, Ralph (Carol) Art, Jeanne (Dennis) Gebele and Jim (Nancy) Art.
Deceased are a son, Thomas Art; a stepson, Don Nolan; brothers-in-law, Gene Birley, Dale Hundley, Bob Grieshop and Jim Forsthoefel; a sister, Mary Hundley; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Art and Pat Kamphues.
He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School, Celina, and attended Lima Technical College. He worked at Ford Motor Company from 1957-1994 where he was a tool design engineer at the Lima engine plant. Prior to coming to Lima, he worked at Hughes Aircraft and New Idea. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Loyalty Council 2661, both in Lima.
A funeral Mass was held Feb. 18, 2014, at St. Charles Catholic Church, Lima.
A private family interment of the cremated remains will be set for a later date.
