Mona Thompson
Mona Wilhelmina Weinman Thompson, age 87, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 16, 2019 into the arms of her Lord and Savior, while surrounded by her loving family.
Mona was born April 25, 1932 to Hugo and Lorena (Stuckey) Weinman. Her sisters are Mary (James) Breithaupt of Dewitt, New York, and Myla Hyman Heine (deceased) of New Haven, Indiana.
Mona graduated from Rockford High School in 1949. She graduated from The Ohio State University in 1953 and married Roy Thompson Jr. on May 26, 1956 (deceased 2016). They had five children: Romona (Kevin) Carver of Dayton, OH; Roy Thompson, III (deceased May 9, 1995) married Kay Motycka (remarried to Alan Brandt), Rockford, OH; Randall (Bonnie Bryan), Van Wert, OH; Heather Barker, Rockford, OH; Holly (Robert) Wehe, Willshire, OH. Also surviving is daughter-in-law, Kelli Thompson of Van Wert, OH.
Grandchildren and great grandchildren include; Caitlin Carver (Kenny Keefe, fiancé), Covington, KY; Lauren (Jon) Otto, daughter Olive, Cincinnati, OH; Ryan (Leah) Thompson, sons Carter, Roman, and Bailey, Rockford, OH; Tyler (Lindsey) Thompson, son Hayes and daughter Emery, Ontario, OH; Jordan (Ashley) Thompson, Celina, OH; Leah (Abdel) Alaani, son Adam and daughter Amina, Fishers, IN; Weston (Quincy) Thompson, son Sebastian, Van Wert, OH; Daniel Thompson, Dublin, OH; Courtney Barker (Tom Riordan), daughter Haven, Columbia, TN; Trevor Barker, Rockford, OH; Samantha Wehe, Celina OH; Jack Wehe, Willshire, OH.
Mona loved life on the farm. She grew up and spent most of her years on Strable Road where she raised five children and enjoyed gardening. She loved her church and her church family. She served as the organist or assistant organist and pianist for more years than anyone living can remember.
Her brief time away from Rockford included attending the St. Louis Conservatory of Music, studying at and graduating from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, teaching in Michigan and a short stay in Alexandria, Virginia, where her husband completed his service in the US Army Corps of Engineers. For a short time, she held the position of Music and English teacher at Rockford and Neptune schools, but above all, preferred to be a stay at home mom.
She left the farm after the death of her husband, Roy Jr. (2016), to experience life in town. She thoroughly enjoyed living in Rockford because she could still keep a small garden, receive frequent visits from friends and family, and meet new friends and neighbors. Mona never knew a stranger. Roy and Mona believed in their family, their church and their community. As a widow, she continued to be an upbeat, smiling, God-fearing woman. Her zest for life will be greatly missed.
Services for Mona will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 2:30 PM at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9380 Wabash Road, Rockford, Ohio, with Pastor Robin Owen officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11 AM until 2 PM prior to the service on Saturday.
Preferred memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Smile Train and Parkway Music Boosters.
Condolences may be expressed at ketchamripley.com.
