Carl Deitsch
Carl Henry "Bulldog" Deitsch, age 95 of Celina, Ohio passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at his residence with his family at his bedside.
He was born on April 8, 1928 in St. Marys, Ohio to the late Henry William and Rachel Ethel (Runkel) Deitsch. On April 7, 1950 he married Joan Dolores Fowler, who died on September 12, 2012.
Carl is survived by his three daughters & sons-in-law; Carla (John) Johnson of Rockford, Elaine (Tim) Knapke of Celina, Sue Ellen (Melvin) Roehm of Willshire, six grandchildren; Kara (Matthew) Fisher, Katie (Bart) Warthman, Douglas (Katie) Johnson, Kahl (CeCelia) Knapke, Lauren (Josh) Roth, and Brandi (Dan) Shellabarger, ten great grandchildren; Connor Warthman, Carly Warthman, Cohen Warthman, Addison Fisher, Gavin Fisher, Graham Roth, Berkley Roth, Aubree Shellabarger, Colt Johnson, Kit Johnson and his sister-in-law Clara Deitsch of Wisconsin.
Carl was the last survivor of his family, he was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers and sisters-in-law; Andrew Deitsch, Lloyd (Stella) Deitsch, Gerald (Nora) Deitsch and his first wife Burnell Deitsch, Ralph (Willa) Deitsch, Forrest Eugene Deitsch, John (Rosemary) Deitsch and his sisters and brothers-in-law:Mabel (James) Denney, Iva(John) Mong, Velva (Calvin) Goubeau, Ida Ruth (Harry) Young, Dorothea (Donald) Springer, Mary Ellen (Don) Colson and Mildred (Galen) Mentzer.
Carl graduated from Celina High School with the Class of 1946. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired in 1990 from Reynolds and Reynolds in Celina. Carl was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, the Knights of Columbus Council #1800 of Celina, the Celina V. F. W. Post #5713 and the Celina American Legion Post #210. Many will remember Carl from his carpet installation business. He bowled in league for several years and was the centerfielder for the Montezuma Ducks baseball team. One could always see Carl at the I. C. Festival making and selling waffles. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, with Fr. Rob Muhlenkamp officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Celina, with Military Honors provided by the Celina American Legion and the Celina V. F. W.
A visitation and a time of gathering for family and friends will be held from 9:00 a. m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina.
