* IMPACTS...The cold wind chills as low as 15 below zero could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken.

Raymond Miller

Raymond G. Miller, 79, of Portland, Ind., died the early morning of Jan. 1, 2007, in the Jay County Hospital, Portland.

He was born June 23, 1927, in Ashland, to Vernon and Mary Pfleiderer Miller. On Aug. 26, 1950, he married Betty Tucker, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Randy, Geneva, Ind., and Brad, Portland; a daughter, Mickey Pensinger, Portland; a brother, Ronald, Claypool, Ind.; and a granddaughter.

He was owner and operator of Ray Miller Com-pany, Insurance and Real Estate. He coached the Portland Rockets baseball for over 30 years and was a scout for the Cleveland Indians. He did sports presentations for WPGW radio and Triad cable television. He taught and coached basketball at Hartford Township, Adams County, and Atwood High School. He coached rural youth basketball to a state title in 1968.

He was a member and former president of the Portland Chamber of Commerce, Portland Optimist Club; Lincolnia Club; Lifetime Achievement Award winner by Cincinnatus, member of Semi Pro Baseball Hall of Fame and American Amateur Baseball Congress Secretary. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Jay Lodge 87 and Portland Moose Lodge.

Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, the Rev. Greg Rittenhouse presiding. Burial will follow in Green Park Cemetery.

Calling is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
