John Brown
  John A. Brown, 94, 11300 Circle Drive, St. Marys, died at 8:43 a.m. Jan. 6, 2010, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Aug. 26, 1915, in Akron to Robert and Annie Wright Brown. On Nov. 21, 1940, he married Elsie Palmer, who survives.
Other survivors are three sons, Bob (Susan) Brown, Centerville, John (Luanne) Brown, Lincoln, Neb., and Tom (Mary) Brown, West Columbia, S.C.; three daughters, Mary Ann Hollman, Winter Park, Fla., Betty (Harold) Hussey, St. Marys, and Peggy Jo Folk, St. Marys; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Robert and Thomas Brown; a sister, Helen Colson; two stepsisters, Gladys Copeland and Dorothy Ulmer; and a son-in-law, James H. Folk Jr.
He retired from the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, St. Marys, after 44 years of service. He began his career with Goodyear as a tire builder and was selected to join the Goodyear Flying Squadron (Goodyear Industrial University), the company's in-house management training program. Following his graduation, he was sent to Sweden to help start a new tire plant and then to St. Marys in 1940 to help establish Goodyear's first non-tire plant outside Akron. He became plant manager of the Goodyear Plant in Quebec City, Canada, and returned to St. Marys in 1958 to serve as plant manager from 1960-69. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge, Mercer Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons, St. Marys Outing Club (Idlewild), and Northmoor Country Club, all of St. Marys. He served on the board of directors for the former Home Banking Company, St. Marys.
Services are noon Saturday at the church. Private family burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Contributions can be made to the church's Portico fund, the Joint Township Memorial Hospital Foundation or Otterbein Retirement Community benevolence fund.
