Mercer County won't fill vacant Extension post

CELINA - The prospect of paying exorbitant attorney fees for indigent murder suspects is preventing the county from hiring a full-time OSU Extension ag educator.
Mercer County Commissioners on Tuesday said they'd like to fill the vacant position as soon as possible but costs associated with several pending high-profile cases are holding them back. [More]

WAPAKONETA - A humanitarian effort that started Tuesday in an embroidery shop rapidly spread to a local farmer, truck driver, and many residents eager to give aid in the aftermath of Monday's devastating tornado.
Judy DuBois, owner of Wapakoneta's Auglaize Embroidery, is hosting a food and supplies drive through Friday. All donated items are to be hauled via semitrailer directly to victims in Moore, Okla. [More]

CELINA - Voters in November may be asked to support a replacement property tax levy that would generate an additional $500,000 for residents with disabilities.
Auglaize County
WAPAKONETA - Construction of the new Auglaize County dog shelter will soon begin.
County commissioners on Tuesday accepted the low bid of $381,600 by Heyne Construction, Minster, for base construction of the 2,300-square-foot, prefabricated steel shelter. The original estimate was $460,000.
ROCKFORD - Mayor Amy Joseph is looking for volunteers to serve the community.
During council's regular meeting Tuesday, Joseph said the park and zoning boards each have an open seat. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact the village office at 419-363-3032.
MINSTER - Commencement exercises are 1 p.m. Sunday for the Minster High School Class of 2013.
