Ray Payne
Ray Payne passed away on December 18, 2023.
He was born on October 25, 1949. Always quick with a smile, Ray's life was characterized by kindness, integrity, a cheerful demeanor, and a love of family.
Ray is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rebecca Payne; 4 children Ryan Payne (Abbey), Sean Payne (Melissa), Kory Payne (Natalie), and Kami Benoit (Bill); siblings Jannifer Joel, Greg Payne (Terry), Catherine Koch, and Randy Koch (Debbie). Ray was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren.
Ray obtained his Bachelor of Science from the University of Northern Colorado and Masters in Administration from Wright State University. His career in education spanned decades, with the majority of those years spent as a teacher, coach, and principal at Wapakoneta City Schools. He left a lasting impression on students, colleagues, and community. Ray was an active member of the Wapakoneta Optimist Breakfast Club, dedicated to serving the youth within the Wapak community. Ray was an avid golfer and enjoyed sharing that passion with family and friends. When not on the golf course, he was happiest fishing for bass or watching his grandchildren in their extracurricular activities. Known for his warm sense of humor, Ray had a knack for sharing puns and dad jokes. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will be cherished through the stories, laughter, and love he brought into the lives of those fortunate enough to call him family and friend. May he rest in peace.
A memorial service and celebration of Ray's life to be held in Celina, OH will be shared at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wapakoneta Breakfast Optimist Club.
