House GOP favor Mercer commissioner for vacant seat

Mercer County Commissioner Jim Zehringer is being recommended to fill the now-empty Ohio House District 77 seat, formerly held by Keith Faber.
The screening committee of House Republicans, headed by House Speaker Jon Husted, made their decision Tuesday. Husted said the recommendation will be presented to the full Republican Caucus in the coming days. [More]

Mercer County recorded its first traffic fatality of 2007 this morning when a Minster woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 127 at the intersection of Johnston Road.
Melissa (Henkaline) Kogge, 35, 260 S. Garfield St., Minster, was pronounced dead at the scene by Mercer County Coroner Dr. Timothy Heinrichs. Kogge, the mother of four young children, was the lone occupant in the minivan. [More]

ST. HENRY - A hot-shooting start and a spectacular night from the bench allowed St. Henry to win its third straight game in beating Mississinawa Valley, 63-38, in Tuesday night non-conference action at Redskin Gymnasium.
With the win, the Redskins improve to 5-5 on the season while the Blackhawks see a three-game winning streak snapped in falling to 4-8 on the year. [More]
